Robin Goodfellow’s Racing Tips: Best bets for Monday, June 7
Aidan landed the French Derby at Chantilly for the first time on Sunday after St Mark’s Basilica scooted clear for a length-and-three-quarter win from Sealiway.
The favourite was following up his victory in last month’s French 2,000 Guineas and was again ridden by Ioritz Mendizabal.
It was a second straight triumph in the French Derby for Mendizabal, who won on John Gosden’s Mishriff last year.

St Mark’s Basilica has now won three Group One races. O’Brien said: ‘He has a lot of options, the Eclipse, the Champion Stakes. Those types of races would be very strong possibles for him.’
Meanwhile, O’Brien had been nonplussed by the performance of his Epsom Derby favourite Bolshoi Ballet, who faded tamely and finished seventh on Saturday.
But Ryan Moore’s mount emerged from the race with a nasty gash on a hind leg and video evidence suggested he had been struck into by a rival early in the race.
O’Brien added: ‘It hurt him and there’s every chance it affected him.’
