Jockey Hollie Doyle cut to 3-1 second favourite to be named BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year after record-breaking year

  • Hollie Doyle rode both her first Royal Ascot and Group One winner this year
  • She also broken her own record for most winners by a female jockey in a year
  • The sport is getting behind her nomination like Sir Anthony McCoy in 2010

Hollie Doyle has been cut to 3-1 second favourite to be named the BBC‘s Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday as the gamble on the record-breaking jockey maintained its momentum.

Only F1’s Lewis Hamilton is ahead of Doyle in the betting in a year which has seen her ride her first Royal Ascot winner and her first Group One winner. She has also broken her own record for winners by a female jockey in a year, with her tally standing at 148.

Just as it did when Sir Anthony McCoy was named the SPOTY winner in 2010, the sport has got behind Doyle’s award nomination.

The feature steeplechase at Ascot on Saturday is named the Good Luck Hollie In SPOTY Silver Cup.

Jon Lees, spokesman for Ladbrokes, said: ‘We have seen real momentum behind Hollie since the launch of racing’s social media campaign supporting her.

‘Back in June she was 100-1 and even on Wednesday she was 20-1. She seems to be getting plenty of support.’

LADBROKES SPOTY BETTING: 1-2 Lewis Hamilton, 3-1 Hollie Doyle, 10-1 Ronnie O’Sullivan, 20-1 Tyson Fury, 22-1 Jordan Henderson, 100-1 Stuart Broad
