- Christian Williams hopes Kitty’s Light will be given Grand National opportunity
- A ballot may not be needed to decide whether Kitty’s Light can take part
Trainer Christian Williams hopes that Kitty’s Light ‘gets the opportunity to do something special’ with the gelding looking like he should get a place in the Grand National at Aintree on Saturday.
With the line-up now restricted to 34 runners, the Jack Tudor-ridden 2023 Scottish National winner seemed likely to miss the final cut.
Currently a ballot would need to be held to decide which one of Kitty’s Light, Venetia Williams’ Chambard and the Henry De Bromhead-trained Eklat De Rire secures the final two places.
But question marks about Gordon Elliott’s duo Conflated and Galvin plus Peter Bowen’s Mac Tottie mean that a ballot might not be needed.
Williams has taken positives out of Kitty’s Light’s seventh place in the Ultima Handicap Chase at last month’s Cheltenham Festival.

The trainer said: ‘He didn’t have a great preparation. He had a couple of setbacks but he came good about a fortnight before Cheltenham and has blossomed since. He is in great heart.’
Kitty’s Light will carry huge sentimental support for Williams from a sport that has rallied around him and his family since his five-year-old daughter Betsy began treatment for Leukaemia last year.
