Sunway ruled out of weekend action by unsatisfactory scope

Sunway is likely to head to Doncaster’s St Leger Festival after being ruled out of a potential outing this weekend due to an unsatisfactory scope.

David Menuisier’s juvenile created a big impression when making a successful debut at Sandown in June, but disappointed when stepped up to Listed class for Ascot’s Pat Eddery Stakes.

However, connections discovered a viable excuse for that below-par run after Sunway returned lame and he looked set to either return to Sandown for Saturday’s Virgin Bet Solario Stakes or head to his trainer’s homeland of France the following afternoon for the Prix la Rochette at ParisLongchamp.

He will not take up either engagement, though.

“His scope wasn’t 100 per cent when we scoped him earlier in the week, so we decided to give him a bit more time,” said Menuisier.

“He’s likely to go to Doncaster in two weeks’ time, either for the Champagne Stakes or the Listed race the day before (Flying Scotsman Stakes).”
