San Marcos Victor Prince Abama Timely In Victory

Taking to the turf at Santa Anita in the GIII San Marcos S., Prince Abama (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}–Abama Lady, by Mr. Greeley), winner of the GI Hollywood Derby at Del Mar Nov. 25, proved best on Sunday afternoon, as the 5-year-old traversed the 1 1/4 distance to effect. Settled mid-pack, the gelding raced evenly as longshot Evan Harlan (Temple City) and favorite Masteroffoxhounds (War Front) showed the way. Around the far turn, it was the chalk who looked to claim the race going away, but in the final stages, handled expertly by jockey Flavien Prat, Prince Abama laid down a furious and well-timed charge to get up just in time to stop the clock at 2:01.42.
