Andre Fabre could have unearthed a Classic contender in Sajir, who struck at stakes level for the first time at Chantilly recently.
Owned by Prince Faisal, the son of Make Believe finished second behind Karl Burke’s Elite Status in the Prix de Cabourg in July and was still a work in progress when well held behind Simon and Ed Crisford’s Vandeek in the Prix Morny a month later.
However, the youngster has made giant strides since that taste of Group One action and although the level of opposition – which included Alice Haynes’ Lexington Belle – in the Listed Prix Saraca is up for debate, it was hard to fault the impressive nature of his going away five-and-a-half-length success, which came on his first try at seven furlongs.
His handler was delighted to see Sajir score in such a decisive manner and the colt will now enter winter quarters with a shot at the Qipco 2000 Guineas a possibility for his return in the spring.
Fabre said: “The style of the win was really good. The opposition was not the best, but the way he went and won was really pleasing.
“He will be put away for next season now and the English Guineas could be a possibility for him. It could be an option for him.
“He was not at his best in the Morny, he was still a bit weak and backward, but he has progressed nicely.”
