In the opening race of the Dublin Racing Festival (Leopardstown, 1.20), JETARA (nap) looks set to relish the step up in trip to 2m6½f.
The experienced mare has completed a hat-trick of wins over intermediate trips this season with her winning distances totalling 29½ lengths in those three runs.
The latest came in an open Grade Three Mares’ Hurdle at this track over 2m4f on soft/heavy ground, where she beat Telmesomethinggirl, a 2021 Cheltenham Festival winner.
Jetara should prove hard to beat back in novice company with a 7lb mares’ allowance.
Later, MAGNA SAM (nb) (Musselburgh, 2.15) holds strong claims for a repeat victory in the Edinburgh National.
A three-time course winner from four starts, the gelding won this race last season off a mark of 120 by 4¼ lengths and runs this year off only a 4lb higher mark.
2.50 MUSSELBURGH
Ballygeary was a respectable third at Cheltenham in his first race of the season. He then won a two-horse race before finishing second over this course and distance last time out and can challenge again.
3.10 SANDOWN
Ed Keeper (nap) was an impressive winner at Newbury in December. A final flight mistake arguably cost him victory at Cheltenham when last seen but he can bounce back here.
3.45 SANDOWN
Blackjack Magic was a beaten favourite in an Ascot Grade Three before Christmas but the quicker ground was probably against him. Prior to that, he’d won a good race at Wincanton.
