Databank – Your guide to the afternoon’s action

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Ross Ryan is romping away with the All Weather championships and has had 10 wins in the last fortnight. He has solid chances with KINGDOM COME (Wolverhampton, 3.15) and AT LIBERTY (Wolverhampton, 4.25), and also rides MARCHING MAC (Wolverhampton, 6.10).

TRAINER TO FOLLOW

Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero have had two wins from their last four jumps runners and the duo have a big chance in the feature Imperial Cup with MAKING HEADWAY (Sandown, 2.25) but also have serious hopes with LET’S GO JOE (Ayr, 2.33), L’impertinent (Hereford, 3.27) and WHODINI (Ayr, 3.43) plus interesting newcomer FENNELLA (Hereford, 5.12).

BIG DAY FOR

Jockey Harry Russell, who tries to win the biggest race of his career on DOCTOR KHAN JUNIOR (Wolverhampton, 2.40) in the Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes. Russell has won six times from eight rides on the rapidly improving gelding.

WATCH OUT FOR

HONKY TONK HIGHWAY (Sandown, 3.00) makes her debut for the Skelton stable in this hotly contested Listed Bumper having cost £165,000 after a winning an Irish point-to-point. That form has been franked with the two horses which chased her home winning since, including Diva Luna who won a Listed Bumper at Market Rasen.

HORSES FOR COURSES

FINAL VOYAGE (Wolverhampton, 3.15) is now trained in Ireland by JP Murtagh but when he was based in Britain he ran four times at today’s track, winning three times and finishing third on the other start in 2020-21.

TRAINER TARGET

Gary Moore has won the Betfair Racing Podcasts Juvenile Handicap Hurdle three times in the last five years. He runs THROUGH THE AGES (Sandown, 1.15) and BRIDGE (Sandown, 1.15).

PERFECT PARTNERS

Clifford Lee has ridden seven winners from 30 rides for Steph Hollinshead to show a £1 level stake profit of £15.25. He rides the trainer’s PLUMETTE (Wolverhampton, 4.25).

BEST RACE FOR FAVOURITES

Four favourites have won the 1.23 at Ayr in the last six years.

TOP PRIZEMONEY EARNERS

AYR: 2.33 CORNERSTONE LAD £159,108.

SANDOWN: 2.25 SANS BRUIT £237,118.

WOLVERHAMPTON: 3.15 SIR BUSKER £555,918.

ROBIN GOODFELLOW – Best Bets

By Steve Ryder

The Gary Moore stable have a fantastic record at Sandown this season and they will be hoping a return to the track will mean SPIRIT D’AUNOU (NB) bounces back to form in the Imperial Cup (Sandown, 2.25). Victorious on both of his starts over this course and distance on heavy ground including by three and half lengths on his penultimate start, the progressive five-year-old should run much better than in the Betfair Hurdle with Freddie Mitchell taking off a handy 5lb.

Later on the card (3.35) GOLDEN SON (NAP) bids to follow up his victory from a fortnight ago at Kempton. The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding chased home Cheltenham Festival hopeful Iroko at Warwick on his first chase in this country before disappointing on his next two starts. Fitted with first-time cheekpieces last time, he beat a subsequent winner (now rated 6lb higher) by half a length and is only 3lb higher in this race.

THE WIZARD OF ODDS

By Chris Baker

1.50 SANDOWN

FIRE FLYER has made a decent start to his hurdling career with two wins from three starts. His only defeat came when chasing home the subsequent Grade Two winner Gidleigh Park. 13-2

2.25 SANDOWN

Last year’s County Hurdle winner FAIVOIR (above) needs to win this race to be guaranteed a run at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. He finished a respectable fifth in the Betfair Hurdle last time out. 8-1

3.15 WOLVERHAMPTON

Hat-trick seeking KING’S CODE (nap) has an excellent record on the All Weather with four wins from nine races. Two of those successes have come at Wolverhampton, including over today’s distance. 7-1
