Robin Goodfellow’s Best Bets
The Group Three Criterion Stakes (Newmarket, 3.25) looks a competitive race but a chance is taken on NOSTRUM (NAP) who can hopefully bounce back from two below-par efforts having been gelded since.
A Group Three winner as a juvenile on the Rowley Mile course, he finished third in the Dewhurst Stakes later that season behind subsequent 2,000 Guineas winner Chaldean.
The four-year-old was an impressive three-length winner last season at this course and the combination of a gelding operation and a return to Newmarket can spark him back to form.
Later at Newcastle in the 3.40, ELDRICKJONES (NB) looks overpriced to further enhance his course record.
With form figures of 2612151 at the track, including winning by three and a half lenghts in May over this distance of seven furlongs, his two recent efforts in competitive turf handicaps can be excused. With Cieren Fallon deputising on board, he can land this off a mark of 91.

The 116-rated KINROSS (nap) has raced outside of Group One or Two company just six times in his 28-race career to date. He can outclass today’s rivals to record an 11th win.
Newmarket, 2.15pm
After a promising debut at Nottingham, TEEJ A won a Chester maiden before landing the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom in impressive style. She looks more than capable of winning at Listed level.
Newcastle, 3.10pm
TASHKHAN finished third in the Cesarewitch and ended last season placed in a French Group One. He can defy top weight and provide trainer Brian Ellison with a first Northumberland Plate.
