Goodfellow best bets

This is a top-class renewal of the Silviniaco Conti Chase (Kempton, 2.07) where EDWARDSTONE (NAP) (above) steps up in trip for the first time over fences.

The three-time Grade One winner has a fantastic record going right-handed with form figures of 11111U2 in his career with his latest effort coming when second behind Jonbon in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown.

The Alan King-trained gelding is top-rated and can beat last year’s winner Pic D’Orhy who was underwhelming last time at Ascot.

Later at Warwick in the Classic Chase (3.00), VOLCANO (NB) looks set to relish conditions despite running from 2lb out of the handicap. Victorious in five out of his six starts at Warwick in his career, his only defeat came in this race last year when fifth from 10lb out of the handicap. He will face competition for the lead but should run well carrying only 10st 2lb.

The Wizard of Odds

2.07 KEMPTON

PIC D’ORHY (nap) won this race last year and ended the season with a Grade One victory at Aintree. He was a comfortable winner on his return to action at Ascot in November.

5-2

2.42 KEMPTON

IMPOSE TOI has finished in the first two places in all eight starts to date. He looked unlucky just before Christmas when narrowly beaten by Luccia at Ascot last time out.

3-1

2.50 WETHERBY

BENASSI recorded form figures of 3121 from his four races last season. He was pulled up on his reappearance but improved from that to finish a clear second 53 days ago at Lingfield.

5-1

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

DAVID NOONAN secured his first ever Grade One win last month and is on course for his best season. He has a clutch of interesting rides headed by PEPE LE MOKO (Kempton, 3.15) with HERMINO AA (Kempton, 2.42) a live each-way hope in the Lanzarote Hurdle. NOTLONGTILLMAY (Kempton, 2.07) also should not be underestimated in the feature Silviniaco Conti Chase.

TRAINER TO FOLLOW

Dan Skelton is the dominant trainer at Warwick, his 64 winners there in the last five years almost double the next best trainer. As expected he fields a strong hand with ETALON (Warwick, 12.05), THEFORMISMIGHTY (Warwick, 1.15), MARTHA BRAE (Warwick, 1.49) while the talented GREY DAWNING (Warwick, 2.24) and GALIA DES LITEAUX (Warwick, 3.00), wearing cheekpieces for the first time, are big players in the feature races.

BIG DAY FOR

In-form Patrick Wadge, who leads the race to be the champion conditional jockey. With colleague Derek Fox sidelined, the 22-year-old gets the mount on Lucinda Russell’s Grade One winning mare APPLE AWAY (Warwick, 2.24) in the Grade Two Trustatrader Hampton Novices’ Chase as she bids to stake her Cheltenham Festival claims.

WATCH OUT FOR

DIAMOND RI (Warwick, 1.15)

Trainer Joe Tizzard hasn’t hidden how much he thinks of this five-year-old. He was sent off at short odds for his hurdling debut at Exeter in November but showed inexperience and was beaten by a decent rival in Insurrection. It will be disappointing if he doesn’t go close today.

HORSES FOR COURSES

CORNERSTONE LAD (Wetherby, 2.15) goes well on heavy ground and has a good record at the West Yorkshire track with two wins, three seconds and a third from nine starts.

TRAINER TARGET

Skelton has won two of the last four runnings of the William Hill Pick Your Places Handicap Hurdle at Wetherby. He runs SANTOS BLUE (Wetherby, 2.50).

PERFECT PARTNERS

ROSSA RYAN (left) has ridden 18 winners from 84 rides for Mick Appleby to show a £1 level stake profit of +£6.37. He rides SUMMA PETO (Wolverhampton, 6.00) for the stable.

BEST RACE FOR FAVOURITES

Seven have won the 2.07 at Kempton in last 10 years.
