Red Knight Earns Grade I Glory In Man o’ War S.

A 9-year-old New York-bred, RED KNIGHT (Pure Prize–Isabel Away, by Skip Away) earned his first Grade I win Saturday in taking Belmont’s Man o’ War S. Breaking from the inside gate under Irad Ortiz, Jr., the chestnut trailed the field early while racing inside of favored 3-5 European import Warren Point (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). As that rival made an outside move heading into the far turn, Red Knight tracked right behind him and the pair began to gain on early pacemakers Channel Maker (English Channel) and Strong Tide (English Channel). Four wide as the top flight straightened for home, Red Knight had the best closing kick, asserting himself through the final sixteenth to win going away as a pack of five rivals hit the wire together for second behind him. The final time for the 1 3/8 miles was 2.13.74. Lifetime Record: 34-12-9-1.
