Racing at Laurel Cancelled Until Further Notice

According to a tweet sent out Friday morning by the Maryland Jockey Club, racing at Laurel has been canceled until further notice. The decision came one day after Golden Pegasus (Golden Lad) broke down in Thursday’s fourth race and had to be euthanized. In the fifth race, Bigmancan (Can the Man) pulled up lame and had to be vanned off the track.

Racing was also canceled at Laurel on April 8 due to concerns about the track.

Track consultants from 1/ST RACING, which owns Laurel, met with horsemen, jockeys and exercise riders on Thursday to gather feedback on the turf and dirt courses.

This story will be updated.
