Sarah Steinberg’s Fantastic Moon will head to the Prix Niel at ParisLongchamp on Sunday after the ground scuppered his Grosser Preis von Baden bid.
The Sea The Moon colt emulated his sire at Hamburg earlier in the season when winning the German Derby, a performance that was followed by a second-placed run behind Nations Pride in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich.
Baden-Baden was to be his next port of call last weekend, but the ground proved too heavy and the three-year-old was therefore withdrawn from the 12-furlong Group One.
He held an alternative entry for the Prix Niel at Longchamp, a Group Two run over the same trip, and will now take up that engagement, live on Sky Sports Racing.
Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten of owners Liberty Racing said of the decision: “It (ground) was too dead, they watered overnight and we need good ground for him.
“The ground was too soft for him, so we decided in the morning that we would come out of the race.
“We will go to the Prix Niel in Paris on Sunday instead.
“Rene Piechulek will ride him in that.”
