Nicky Henderson is adamant Shishkin will jump off in the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day and deliver a performance to reflect his outstanding ability.
Shishkin refused to race at Ascot last month and his temperament is under scrutiny, with many wondering whether the gelding — a multiple Grade One winner — will do something similar at Kempton.
But Henderson, who is thrilled with how Shishkin has worked recently, said: ‘He’s going really well. His schooling the other morning was fantastic. I’m not going to say he’ll win but I do think he can run very well.’
Chief among his opponents will be last year’s winner Bravemansgame, who has finished runner-up on both his starts this winter.
Trainer Paul Nicholls told Mail Sport at Newbury on Wednesday: ‘I couldn’t be happier with him. He worked great this morning, he looks great and everything is A1.’
