Lot Of Joy in line for Ebor if making final field

Lot Of Joy could take her chance in the Sky Bet Ebor if she makes the cut for the big York handicap.

The five-year-old won the Swedish St Leger in 2021 before joining Willie Mullins, for whom she has won once over hurdles in nine starts both over obstacles and on the Flat.

Lot Of Joy posted her best effort on the level when third in the Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh last year and was most recently seen in action at the Galway Festival, where she failed to sparkle in either the Connacht Hotel (QR) Handicap on the Flat and in a hurdles heat later in the week.

She is a general 16-1 chance for the Knavesmire feature on August 26, which Mullins won in 2009 with the mare Sesenta.

Mullins’ son and assistant Patrick expects Lot Of Joy to line up on the Knavesmire should she make the final field, with the Camelot mare currently 38th on the list for a race with a safety limit of 22.

Speaking at Downpatrick on Sunday, Mullins said: “Possibly (go to the Ebor), she disappointed twice in Galway so we have to see how she is nearer the time.

“If she got in, she would probably take her chance.

“She definitely does have a bit of class on the Flat, she disappointed in the GPT (at Galway) (but) with a massive weight, though.

“Probably a return to good Flat ground and light weights might suit her well.”
