- Jockey, 39, fractured his vertebra and suffered concussion in fall in November
Jamie Moore has retired from riding on medical advice following a fall at Lingfield in November.
The 39-year-old, who rode his first winner at Plumpton in November 2002, fractured his T7 vertebra and suffered a significant concussion.
Moore rode 968 winners from over 8,000 rides. Those wins memorably included the 2014 Queen Mother Champion Chase on Sire De Grugy, when his colleagues came out of the weighing room to cheer their popular fellow jockey back to the winner’s enclosure.
Sire De Grugy, like the majority of Moore’s winners, was trained by his father Gary.
He was also champion conditional jockey in the 2003-04 season when riding for Martin Pipe.

Moore, who had more than his fair share of bad injuries including a broken back and sternum, said: ‘It is with huge regret that, following my last fall in November, I will not be returning to race riding.
‘After being checked by top neurologists and spinal specialists, and taken advice from (BHA chief medical adviser) Dr Jerry Hill and the doctors who’ve seen me the most in my career —Dr Rizwan Ghani and Dr Lucy Free — I have been medically advised not to race ride again.
‘I would like to thank everyone who has stuck by me and supported me throughout my 22-year career.’
Moore, younger brother of three-time champion Flat jockey Ryan, follows brother Josh into injury-prompted retirement.
