Faiza Stays Perfect In Santa Ysabel

Already a Grade I winner, ‘TDN Rising StarFAIZA (Girvin–Sweet Pistol, by Smart Strike) kept her undefeated record intact Sunday with an open-length win in the GIII Santa Ysabel S. at Santa Anita. Breaking widest of the six-horse field, she stayed just off the flank of a pacesetting Blessed Touch (Girvin), a position she held for the opening half mile before coming up on even terms with that rival. Blessed Touch was able to put a gap back on her as the top pair led the field into the far turn but Flavien Prat had Faiza nicely positioned in second to pounce around the bend. Blessed Touch hung in past the furlong marker but faded late as Faiza opened up to defeat a closing And Tell Me Nolies (Arrogate). The winner, as a current Bob Baffert-trainee, is not eligible for the GI Kentucky Oaks and therefore did not pick up the available 50 points. Lifetime Record: 4-4-0-0.

O-Petersen Lund Michael, B-Brereton C Jones, T-Bob Baffert. Sales History: $725,000 2yo EASMAY.
