Corbetts Cross claimed victory in the Maureen Mullins National Hunt Chase.

The final race of day one of the Cheltenham festival saw a dominant performance in which the JP McManus-owned horse strode to victory some eight lengths ahead of the field.

Grand National winning trainer Emmet Mullins said after the race: ‘He’s a class animal, and it’s just great to see him show his true colours.

‘A very classy animal, and we’re very lucky to have Derek (O’Connor). It looks like we’ve just got everything together now at the right time.’

Embassy Gardens came in ahead of Mr Vango, who had led for much of the race, in third.
