Cheltenham punter LOSES chance to win incredible £18,000 off a fiver bet at Cheltenham Festival… after getting his first five winners correct but losing on the sixth horse!

  • Joe Perry, from Liverpool, almost won £18,000 after placing a £5 bet
  • The punter got his first five picks at Cheltenham right and needed two more
  • However, Milan Tino did not win in his sixth race and therefore he lost out

A Cheltenham Festival punter was just two horses away from winning £18,000 on an accumulator after betting £5 – and sadly lost out.

Joe Perry, from Liverpool, placed a £5 bet on seven winners and got the first five of them correct.

All he needed was Milan Tino to win at 4.50pm and Corbetts Cross to succeed at 5.30pm and it could have been a very memorable day.

He had placed successful bets on Gaelic Warrior, Slade Steel, Chianti Classico, State Man, and Lossiemouth.

His optimistic £5 bet could have banked him a grand total of £17,952.37.

However, Milan Tino’s race in the Fred Winter Handicap Hurdledid not go to plan and therefore Perry lost out.

Beyond Milan Tino, he would have needed Corbetts Cross to claim victory in  the Challenge Cup Novices’ Chase.

Betting on Cheltenham appears to be something of a tradition for Perry, who tweeted: ‘Why do I do this every year?’

Unfortunately, it was first day blues for the Everton fan, who almost won the bet of a lifetime but was let dow by a cruel twist of fate.

MailOnline has tried to get in touch with Perry for comment.
