Champion Forte Super Strong in Fountain of Youth

Champion juvenile FORTE (c, 3, Violence–Queen Caroline, by Blame) picked up right where he left off in his sophomore debut Saturday with a dominant performance in the GII Fountain of Youth S. at Gulfstream Park to solidify his current spot atop the GI Kentucky Derby depth chart. Last year’s three-time Grade I winner, off since a clear-cut score in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, was pounded down to 1-2 odds and made that price look like a gift. Able to save ground early, he worked his way outside and cruised up take command en route to a facile five or six-length victory in 1:43.12. GIII Holy Bull S. winner Rocket Can (Into Mischief) was second best with Cyclone Mischief (Into Mischief) rounding out the trifecta. Sales history: $80,000 wnlg ’20 KEENOV; $110,000 ylg ’21 KEESEP. O-Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable; B-South Gate Farm (Ky). T-Todd A. Pletcher.
