Burrows considering Haydock assignment for War Rooms

Owen Burrows intends to step impressive Doncaster debut winner War Rooms up to Listed level for the Betfair Ascendant Stakes to see if he is capable of taking up loftier engagements later in the year.

The son of Churchill could not have been more impressive on Town Moor, winning by four and three-quarter lengths.

He holds entries in the Royal Lodge over a mile and the Dewhurst over seven furlongs in the autumn and Burrows will see how he gets on at Haydock before deciding which route he might take.

“He’s a lovely, big horse who can only be better next year, so I won’t go mad,” said Burrows.

“He’s got a couple of nice entries in the Royal Lodge and in the Dewhurst, so if he’s pleasing me I might look at the Listed race at Haydock on September 9 – the Ascendant Stakes – so we’ll have a look at that.

“If he’s pleasing me at home, we’ll see where we are then.

“If you look at his pedigree it’s a bit mixed, there’s stamina in there but speedy types too. I always felt he was going to be a miler this year. It was soft ground at Doncaster and he may have been the only one who handled it, but he’d been pleasing me in his work so I just thought it would be a nice place to start.

“He couldn’t have been any more impressive. He’s fine at the moment so as long as his work is pleasing, we’ll have a look at Haydock on the 9th.”
