Ascendant aim for exciting prospect Per Contra

The exciting Per Contra is set for a rise in class at Haydock next month having maintained his unbeaten record at Ffos Las recently.

Trained by Ollie Sangster – the grandson of lengendary owner-breeder Robert Sangster – the Footstepsinthesand colt created a taking impression on debut when overcoming a slow start to surge to success at Chepstow and then backed up the promise of that first outing with an equally impressive display at Ffos Las earlier this month.

Those two performances have come in the calm waters of maiden and novice company, but the youngster, who holds entries for Newmarket’s Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes and Darley Dewhurst Stakes later in the season, is now set for the move up to Pattern company.

The Betfair-sponsored Ascendant Stakes on September 9 has been inked in for the colt’s next outing where he will bid to join the likes of Royal Ascot heroes Pyledriver (2020) and Triple Time (2021) on the roll of honour for the one-mile Listed event.

“We might step him up for a Listed race at Haydock on September 9 called the Ascendant Stakes, that’s where we are looking at the moment,” said Sangster.

“He’s a big horse, so hopefully he will be a progressive horse. Time will tell but he has done nothing wrong at the moment.

“He will be a better horse next year, but hopefully he will continue to do well later this year.”
