Ante-post favourite Monbeg Genius has been ruled out of the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow on December 27 because of a foot abscess.

The Jonjo O’Neill-trained seven-year-old underlined his steeplechasing class when third in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury earlier this month.

O’Neill said: ‘It’s very annoying but when they are not right you can’t run them.’

Meanwhile, trainer Gordon Elliott says Gerri Colombe will sidestep Boxing Day’s King George VI Chase and run two days later in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown.
