Classic-winning trainer Hugo Palmer takes over at former England striker Michael Owen’s Manor House Stables as he says the pair have plans to make it ‘one of the most powerful yards in the country’

Hugo Palmer says he and Michael Owen have plans to make the former England striker’s racing stable in Cheshire one of the most powerful yards in the country,
The Classic-winning trainer has been confirmed as the new licence holder at Owen’s Manor House Stables, replacing Tom Dascombe whose departure was announced in December.
Owen described it as a ‘huge coup’ to persuade Palmer, who won the 2016 2,000 Guineas with Galileo Gold, to move north.

Palmer will move the majority of his string from Newmarket during Cheltenham Festival week next month.
They include Ebro River, winner of the Group One Phoenix Stakes last season, and 2,000 Guineas contender Dubawi Legend.
Palmer, 41, said: ‘Michael and I are both hugely ambitious and want to be one of the most powerful yards in the country. We have plans to expand, obtain more land eventually and put in some more gallops.
‘I am delighted to be taking a group one winner with me in Ebro River, who will be heading down the sprinting route, as well the second highest rated two-year-old in Europe last year in Dubawi Legend.
‘He will have his first racecourse start in the 2,000 Guineas.’
Palmer, who said the move would allow him to double his string to close to 140 horses, added: ‘I hadn’t been looking to move, it is simply I have been presented with an opportunity which is too good to miss.’

Palmer has yet to decide whether he will sell or rent out his current Newmarket base.
Meanwhile Cieren Fallon, 24, will step up as main jockey for Qatar Racing in 2022 while previous No 1 rider Oisin Murphy serves a 14-month suspension.
Fallon, whose father Kieren is a six-time champion jockey, has been Qatar Racing’s No 2 rider.
