The Tizzard operation has enjoyed some notable victories in the early skirmishes of the National Hunt season, but FIDDLERONTHEROOF (Newbury, 3.00) can top all those successes in today’s Ladbrokes Trophy Chase.

By the excellent standards set in previous campaigns, last season was virtually a write-off for the Dorset-based father and son team as they battled to find any consistency from horses beset by illness.

Thankfully, a summer’s rest has seen the likes of Fiddlerontheroof, Lostintranslation and Eldorado Allen return in good form to land valuable prizes and, in the selection, the Tizzards boast a good chance to land one of the season’s marquee events.

Given the issues at Fiddlerontheroof’s stable, it was a wonder he ran to the level he did last term, with his effort in chasing home Monkfish in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase a clear career best in March.

A return win at Carlisle in a swift time announced the seven-year-old was back and firing.

And, although today’s test requires plenty more with Irish raiders Ontheropes and Eklat De Rire in opposition, Fiddlerontheroof looks capable of improving again now he is fit and healthy.
