Star jockey William Pike has been ruled out of the remainded of this week’s Ascot Racing Carnival after breaking his wrist in an E-scooter accident.
The Australian had previously been ruled out of action at the start of the 2024 season after he had suffered a fractured heel after he had been working on the track.
Pike was due to climb aboard Western Empire for Saturday’s Sport-Gold Rush race, with the G&A Williams-trained horse coming into the race as a favourite.
But the champion jockey has undergone surgery on his arm, having reportedly fallen off his scooter in what is being described as an ‘innocuous incident’.
Pike is set to be replaced by Billy Egan for Saturday’s 1400m Group 3 race.
‘He was riding a scooter on Monday evening around Perth just crossing a road,’ Pike’s manager Dale Verhagen said to Racing WA.

The jockey was reportedly involved in an E-scooter accident but said he had been driving sensibly
He has undergone surgery on the broken wrist, with his manager claiming it was a ‘fairly innocuous incident’
‘He was going incredibly slowly, and it was a fairly innocuous incident.
‘He was going 10 to 15 kilometres an hour and landed wrong and he’s broken his wrist.
‘Initially, without speaking to him, I was upset but even himself, he said: “I wish I was doing something dumber, but I was actually being very sensible”.
‘He probably takes more risks on the farm on a weekly basis than he did on that scooter.
‘He’s in a full plaster and it’s a bitter pill to swallow.’
His manager has confirmed that he underwent surgery on the wrist injury, and could be out of action for between ‘eight to ten weeks’.
