Royal Ascot punter lands MAMMOTH £300,000 pay-out after backing horse which claimed victory in the final furlong

  • The punter had placed a £100,000 bet on Fairy Godmother in the Albany Stakes
  • It had seemed that the horse, ridden by Ryan Moore, was out the race at halfway
  • An impressive comeback was produced, however, to claim a narrow near the line

A lucky punter won £200,000 when Ryan Moore produced an impressive comeback at Royal Ascot.

A £100,000 bet on Fairy Godmother was turned into £300,000 in the Albany Stakes when Moore helped took his horse to an unexpected victory.

Bookmakers Star Sports had priced the horse at 2-1, and looked to be in the money when Moore found himself far back halfway down, stuck behind a number of horses.

The jockey maneouvered his way through the pack however, giving him just Heavens Gate to chase down, and he did just that in the final furlong just before the line.

The winning ticket was shared on social media before the race, and it came in clutch to leavy the victor with heavy pockets.

‘Big bet alert,’ Star Sports posted on X, formerly Twitter, before the race. ‘Will it be a fairytale start for the Star Sports on course team?’

It turned out it would be, with Moore and Fairy Godmother dashing to the finish line ahead of the horse’s stablemate.

‘When we saw Ryan Moore and Fairy Godmother finding all sorts of traffic, we thought we’d dodged a bullet after laying £100,000 on course at 2-1,’ Star Sports Head of PR, Luke Tarr, told Racing Post. ‘However, Moore was not to be denied and got his filly up.

‘It’s another winning big-stakes bet we’ve taken this week, having taken £100,000 at 13-8 on Auguste Rodin on Wednesday and £20,000 at 13-2 on Jayarebe yesterday.

‘This week has been one of the toughest Royal Ascots in our history, but this is why we’re here, to take big bets, and we’ll be here tomorrow to do it all again.’

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the bookies, however, with favourites winning the first two races before underdogs claimed success later on.

Moore, meanwhile, won the Gold Cup on Kyprios.
