Robin Goodfellow’s Racing Tips: Best bets for Saturday, October 10
Jessica Harrington appears to hold a strong hand throughout today’s enthralling Newmarket card and CADILLAC (Newmarket, 2.55) could land another prestigious juvenile event for the Irish handler in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes.
The son of Lope De Vega produced a Rolls-Royce performance when last seen, at Leopardstown in Group Two company, thumping subsequent winner Van Gogh courtesy of a powerful staying performance.
That display did plenty to dismiss the memories of the selection’s defeat at the Curragh in August, when heavy ground blunted his impressive turn of foot and he was narrowly outpointed by Mac Swiney.
Sportsmail’s racing expert Robin Goodfellow dishes out his tips for Saturday’s meetings
Harrington has unveiled a host of classy juveniles in recent seasons with her Flat operation going from strength to strength, to such an extent that she has nearly surpassed last season’s figure of 61 winners despite a Covid-blighted campaign
In Cadillac, Harrington boasts another potential star, and provided he handles the track, the Irish raider looks capable of another big display.
Cadillac is not the only two-year-old from across the Irish Sea making the trip backed by stable confidence, as Thunder Moon is also expected to make his presence felt in the same race. Smooth winner of both Curragh starts, the Zoffany colt did well to extricate himself from a pocket in the National Stakes, displaying an explosive turn of foot to rescue a seemingly hopeless situation.
For a horse contesting a Group One on his second start, it was a remarkable display and he may prove just as much of a threat to the selection as leading home contender Chindit.
The last named has yet to confirm his effectiveness on soft ground but he may have the ideal draw in 13 along the stands’ side rail if recent meetings on the Rowley Mile are any indication.
I am hopeful LYNWOOD GOLD (Newmarket, nap, 3.35) can add a valuable handicap to the Harrington gains later on the card with success in the Cesarewitch.
A recent prep run over hurdles should have put the five-year-old spot on for today’s marathon test and it is worth recalling he has already won on the Rowley Mile over nine furlongs as a juvenile.
Lynwood Gold appears nicely berthed in 22, boasts a nice blend of speed and stamina and should find the ground to his liking.
