Roksana (Aintree, 3.35) has found it hard to win at this course but that might change on Saturday afternoon in the Ryanair Stayers Hurdle.
Saturday’s enthralling renewal is full of depth and features two former Stayers’ Hurdle winners in Paisley Park and Lisnagar Oscar, the young pretender in Thyme Hill and a host of quality hurdlers in a strong supporting cast.
So this will be no easy task for Roksana as she searches for her first Aintree success at the fourth attempt.

However, if ever a horse deserved to win on Merseyside it is Dan Skelton’s mare who was nailed on the line by If The Cap Fits in this race two years ago, a defeat which followed her narrow reverse at the hands of Santini in the Sefton Novices Hurdle 12 months earlier.
There was also a neck defeat by Top Notch to add to the collection of near misses so connections of the nine-year-old could be forgiven for thinking that elusive victory is never going to materialise.
Admittedly, she does have a couple of lengths to make up on Paisley Park and Thyme Hill from their running in Ascot’s Long Walk Hurdle before Christmas.
However, she ran a blinder at Cheltenham last month in the Mares’ Hurdle over a trip short of her best and will hopefully gain compensation for her consistency on Saturday.
