Robin Goodfellow’s racing tips: Best bets for Monday, June 15
Six meetings across the UK and Ireland on Monday ensure the eve of Ascot form study may be limited, but CELTIC CLASSIC (Kempton, nap, 7.05) can still begin the week in style.
Handled by the father and son team of Paul and Oli Cole, the selection made a pleasing start to a delayed campaign at Lingfield last week when finishing narrowly behind one of today’s rivals in Valkenburg.
The bare minimum split the duo adrift of cosy winner Elhafei at the Surrey venue, but I am hopeful a switch to Kempton, a track where Celtic Classic has scored previously over 12 furlongs, can see those placings reversed.

The Cole operation have only run nine horses since racing resumed but two of those have obliged and they have also endured some near misses so the team are clearly in good heart.
A step up to two miles should also suit Celtic Classic who was closing on the well-ridden Elhafei at the line, but just ran out of real estate over a trip shorter than todays. The layers won’t be taking a chance with STAGIAIRE (Goodwood, nb, 3.45) following her Wolverhampton romp last week but, as a well-bred daughter of Sea The Moon, it will be disappointing if she can’t carry a penalty to victory in this staying handicap.
The opportunity to enjoy a sterner test of stamina produced a career-best display at Dunstall Park and she looks the type of filly that could leave a rating in the 70s well behind in time.
