Owners are set to be allowed to attend next Saturday’s Investec Derby at Epsom as coronavirusrelated restrictions are eased.

Only people essential to the staging of a meeting have been allowed to go to a racecourse since the sport resumed on June 1.

There has been mounting pressure to allow owners back, given that they have continued to fund the training of their horses throughout racing’s shutdown.

Changes to the Government’s rules on social distancing have given the BHA and racecourses more scope under the elite sport regulations.

The Derby will run without spectators, though. A fence is being erected around the racecourse to keep people off Epsom Downs on the day.

Courses have been closely monitoring the situation in the hope that restrictions on access will be eased.

Officials at Glorious Goodwood, which is staged at the end of next month, are hopeful they may be able to allow in some annual members as well as owners.
