Hollie Doyle celebrates her first Royal Ascot triumph as 33-1 shot Scarlet Dragon claims dramatic victory in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes
- Record-breaking rider Doyle claimed her first Royal Ascot success
- The 23-year-old jockey enjoyed an impressive 2019, claiming 116 winners
- And Doyle steered the Alan King-trained Scarlet Dragon to victory on Friday
Hollie Doyle showed why she can elevate female Flat jockeys to a whole new level with her first Royal Ascot winner on Alan King-trained 33-1 shot Scarlet Dragon in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes.
Doyle’s dramatic win made her only the third female jockey to ride a royal meeting winner and came 24 hours after Hayley Turner landed her second career royal meeting success on Onassis in the Sandringham Stakes — also at 33-1.
Last year Doyle, 23, set a female record of 116 Flat successes in a year and Scarlet Dragon’s victory was her 50th of a disrupted 2020 campaign.

She said: ‘This means a huge amount to me.
‘You try to picture in your head what it’s like to ride a winner here but it is very hard.’
It meant she has beaten partner and fellow jockey Tom Marquand to a win at the meeting but she did not expect an awkward journey home.
‘We’re in separate cars,’ she smiled.
