- Just half a dozen head to post for bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown on Friday
Charlie Appleby and William Buick have spent much of the last fortnight mopping up virtually every Classic trial going and GOLDSPUR (Sandown, 3.35) can continue the trend on Friday.
Just half a dozen head to post for the bet365 Classic Trial, but the modest-sized field won’t concern Godolphin, who appear to hold a strong hand courtesy of the selection and once-raced Newcastle maiden winner Franz Strauss.
The latter, well backed for his debut, obliged at Gosforth Park before Christmas, but his stable’s Classic generation have been slow to hit their stride, so preference is for Goldspur, who has already proved his effectiveness at Sandown.

A smooth debut success preceded a battling Group Three win at Newmarket before the Dubawi colt was despatched to France in the autumn to tackle the Criterium de Saint-Cloud.
He found fellow English raider El Bodegon too strong that day, but the form has been reinforced since with the runner-up and seventh winning, while fourth-home Buckaroo was agonisingly beaten in the Ballysax Stakes.
