Robin Goodfellow’s racing tips: Best bets for Saturday, November 2

Mail Sport’s racing expert Robin Goodfellow delivers his tips for Saturday’s meetings at Wetherby, Newmarket, Ayr, Southwell and Ascot.

With the Nigel Twiston-Davies stable still in good form, MASTER CHEWY (Ascot 2.05, nb) looks capable of giving weight to all of his rivals off the back of an impressive novice chase campaign last season.

The progressive seven- year-old was only beaten a head at Aintree in a Grade One last season and can defy top weight with Tom Bellamy retaining the ride. Later on, HIGHSTAKESPLAYER (Ascot 3.45, nap) looks to hold strong claims with conditions to suit at Ascot. Victorious in all four of his chase starts last season when going right- handed, he was a cosy winner at Kempton in his last race in April, off a mark of 130.

A 5lb rise on Saturday underestimates him and he can make a winning reappearance for trainer Tom Lacey.

CHRIS BAKER’S WIZARD OF ODDS

1.07 NEWMARKET: DASHING DICK is a regular at Newmarket and looks to have ideal conditions. He’ll relish the drying ground and can build on his recent second-place finish at Yarmouth.

2.17 NEWMARKET: The David Menuisier-trained TRIBAL CHIEF has won his last three races and four in total since being gelded. He arrives in top form and can defy the step up in class.

4.00 NEWMARKET: MADAME DE SEVIGNE won a Class Three contest over Saturday’s course and distance last month. She will take some beating in this lower grade with champion apprentice Sean D Bowen claiming 3lb.

7.41 DEL MAR: Three consecutive victories, including a dominant Grade One success at Saratoga, make COGBURN (NAP) a formidable contender in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.

9.01 DEL MAR: REBEL’S ROMANCE can win the Breeders’ Cup Turf for the second time. Successful at Keeneland in 2022, he’s since landed five more races, including three prestigious International Group Ones.

11.45 DEL MAR: The 2,000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner NOTABLE SPEECH can bounce back from his defeat in France with Saturday’s ground conditions sure to suit his explosive turn of foot.
