Jockey Bryony Frost completes superb double on Frodon and Greaneteen at Sandown

Bryony Frost completes stunning Sandown double on Frodon and Greaneteen just two weeks after being kicked in the head at Aintree

  • Frost landed the two most prestigious races in the jumps finale at Sandown
  • Frost conjured a late rally from Frodon to claim the Grade Two Oaksey Chase
  • She then guided Greaneteen to a Grade One success in the Celebration Chase

After a season of landmark wins for female jockeys, Bryony Frost appropriately landed the two most prestigious races in the jumps finale at Sandown.

Frost pounced late on Paul Nicholls-trained Greaneteen to win the Grade One bet365 Celebration Chase by three and three-quarter lengths from Altior having earlier conjured a late rally from old ally Frodon to snatch a dramatic neck victory from Mister Fisher in the Grade Two Oaksey Chase.

Frost only returned to action on Thursday after almost two weeks observing concussion protocols for being kicked in the head when unseated from Yala Enki in the Grand National.

That process had included ‘spending my 26th birthday in my bedroom with the curtains drawn’. Frost added: ‘I was in a dark room with the sun shining outside. You have only got one head and you have got to look after it and make sure you come back 110 per cent. I felt sharp out there today but when you ride the winners it is the easiest place to ride.’

Frost has now won nine races on Frodon, including when becoming the first female jockey to win the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

There were two rides but no wins for Rachael Blackmore at Sandown. But the first female jockey to win the Champion Hurdle and Grand National has been called up to ride Envoi Allen at the Punchestown Festival on Tuesday in his much anticipated clash with Monkfish.

Blackmore goes into the final week of the Irish jumps season still with an outside chance of being champion jockey.

Meanwhile, Hollie Doyle continued her great start to the Flat season with a 135-1 four-timer at Leicester.
