  • Racing’s expected return next week has seen a massive demand for slots
  • Meeting at Kempton has seen 454 horses entered while only 108 can run
  • At Newcastle, only 120 runners out of the 369 entries will be accommodated

The massive demand for slots in the early races of the sport’s expected return next week has been underlined with 454 horses entered for Tuesday’s meeting at Kempton.

Stabling capacity at the track means it can only stage a maximum of nine races, limited to 12 runners each, giving 108 horses the chance to run.

Monday’s opening meeting at Newcastle, where 120 runners will be accommodated in 10 races, attracted 369 entries.

Meanwhile, trainer Charlie Appleby intends running Al Suhail, runner-up in last season’s Autumn Stakes, in the 2,000 Guineas on Saturday week alongside unbeaten stablemate and odds-on favourite Pinatubo.
