Hurricane Lane faces crucial work-out at Newmarket on Saturday ahead of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after William Buick opts to ride stablemate Adayar at Longchamp

Hurricane Lane faces a crucial work-out at Newmarket on Saturday which will determine whether he joins his Charlie Appleby-trained Godolphin stablemate Adayar in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on October 3.
The St Leger winner will be ridden by James Doyle after William Buick, Appleby’s No 1 jockey, unsurprisingly pinned his Arc colours to Derby and King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Adayar.
Buick’s decision prompted Coral to ease Hurricane Lane to 5-1 third favourite for Europe’s biggest all-age, middle-distance race.

Adayar is 7-2 second favourite behind Dermot Weld-trained mare Tarnawa (9-4).
Appleby said: ‘James will partner Hurricane Lane in a simple piece of work. Then discussions will take place next week on his participation. We will see where we stand and whether we’ll have one or two Arc runners.
‘Hurricane Lane does not want a quick surface. Adayar comes into the versatile category but we have always felt ease in the ground enhances Hurricane Lane’s prospects. William is confident he’s picking the right horse.
‘I am always happy for jockeys to choose the horse they’d like to ride. That means they have confidence in the horse.’
Godolphin were among the winners at Newmarket yesterday as trainer Saeed Bin Suroor won the Rosemary Stakes with Frankie Dettori-ridden Soft Whisper and the Joel Stakes with Oisin Murphy-ridden Benbatl.
A win in the Rockfel Stakes earns a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in California in November and there is a good chance David Loughnane-trained, Rossa Ryan-ridden Hello You will take up the invitation after her length-and-a-half win from Cachet.
