A large crowd wait to see American Pharoah in action
USA: Excitement is building in Saratoga as American Pharoah limbers up for his latest Grade 1 assisgnment, and the stands were already full on Friday just to glimpse the Triple Crown hero in action.
Among those watching on and waiting was British trainer Hugo Palmer, who runs New Providence in the Grade 2 Ketel One Ballston Spa Stakes, and he tweeted: “Massive crowd at Saratoga, 15,000 to watch American Pharoah train. Staggering.”
American Pharoah is expected to make it nine wins from ten starts in the Travers Stakes and continue his phenomenal record. He is as short as 1-5 with British bookmakers, and 2-7 is the best price available with Coral.
Baffert enjoying the ride
Trainer Bob Baffert was on track, and having received applause and cheers from the stands, paid tribute to his star. He said: “I’ve never had one with such class and he has shipped so many times but keeps bringing it every time.”
American Pharoah is running at a different course for the sixth consecutive race and Baffert added: “I’m enjoying it and I’m glad everyone is here to see him. It takes a spectacular horse to do what he has done. Let’s enjoy him.”
