Aidan O’Brien will send Qipco 2,000 Guineas favourite Churchill straight to next month’s Classic at Newmarket, with O’Brien describing the colt as “very exciting”.
Last season’s Dewhurst winner is a best-priced 6-4 for the Guineas, and he dominates the market, with stablemate Caravaggio next in, but available at 9-1.
Speaking in Monday’s Racing Post as part of the Stable Tours series, O’Brien said of Churchill: “He’s a massive, powerful colt and as physically imposing a colt as we’ve had at Ballydoyle. He was quite mature mentally last season and did well over the winter.
“We’re very happy with him and he’ll go straight for the Guineas at Newmarket. How far he’ll stay remains to be seen and we’ll see what happens at Newmarket before we think about the Derby.”
Among the riches at his disposal, O’Brien also has the versatile Minding to call upon again.
Now four, the filly won the 1,000 Guineas, Oaks and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes last season, showcasing her talent at a variety of trips.
O’Brien added: “We’ll probably keep her to a mile and a quarter for the first half of the season and aim her at the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. She’s done well over the winter and after delighting us last year we’re looking forward to this season.”
