IT NEVER rains but it pours. Just ask Rich Ricci and Willie Mullins as they have lost another Cheltenham contender in Getabird.
The dual bumper winner has been ruled out of the Weatherbys Champion Bumper with an injury. He was a general 4-1 favourite.
Ricci’s racing manager Joe Chambers said on Racing UK: “It’s highly unlikely he’ll make Cheltenham and more than likely he’ll probably be out for the season.
“He’s sore behind, unfortunately. It might have happened as a result of or during his win at Gowran but the prognosis is for missing Cheltenham rather his racing career.”
The setback represents another blow for Ricci and Mullins this season following the death of Vautour and recent festival defections of Faugheen and Annie Power, the last two winners of the Champion Hurdle, as well as leading Racing Post Arkle contender Min.
“It’s been tough,” added Chambers. “Everyone can say it’s part of the game and it happens to everybody but it feels as though we’ve had a relentless torrent of it in the last couple of weeks.”
