SPRINT king Robert Cowell is targeting Listed success with five-year-old mare Iffranesia when she takes aim at the £50,000 totescoop6 Beverley Bullet on Saturday – the main event on Beverley’s richest raceday in history.
The 102-rated Iffranesia is Cowell’s sole representative in a high-class running of the 5f sprint after the trainer withdrew popular veteran Kingsgate Native at the final declaration stage due to the ground conditions.
Iffranesia is a major player on the Westwood after chasing home sound yardstick Monsieur Joe in the Listed Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary on August 7 and Cowell’s progressive charge is priced at 8-1 to win at Listed level for the first time.
With the going good, good to soft in places, conditions are likely to suit the daughter of Iffraaj.
Cowell said: “She’ll win a Listed race but whether it’s at Beverley remains to be seen. She’s had a very good season and I thought she ran a very solid race at Tipperary. Finishing second to Monsieur Joe was no disgrace at all as that horse has been campaigned superbly by Paul Midgley.
“The ground was probably too quick for her that day, so it was a very good effort. She’s going the right way and still might be improving.”
The Midgley-trained Line Of Reason finished a close third in this race 12 months ago and is prominent in the betting at 6-1, while 5-1 favourite and Irish raider Maarek, a Group 1-winning sprinter in 2013, has a good draw in stall four for Jamie Spencer and Evanna McCutcheon.
Compatriot Dikta Del Mar also makes the trip to East Yorkshire along with former Bullet hero Tangerine Trees and fellow Bryan Smart inmate Red Pike.
Stuart Williams is also doubly represented by Cordial and Holley Shiftwell in the 16-runner field, while Alben Star and Katawi have been declared for Richard Fahey and Chris Wall respectively.
