Cosmic Burst Gives Violence Two on the Day at Keeneland

Firming late into 8-5 favoritism and trying two turns for the first time, COSMIC BURST (f, 2, Violence–Peggy Ring, by Ghostzapper) became the 16th individual first-crop winner for her sire (by Medagalia d’Oro) and second on the Keeneland program with a narrow graduation. Stretching out to two turns off a runner-up effort in a six-furlong Churchill maiden Sept. 21, the $25,000 KEESEP acquisition argued the pace under a snug hold while maintaining a spot at the rail. Given some rein with about three furlongs to travel, the Pennsylvania-bred cut the corner for home under a right-handed stick and found the line in the nick of time to take it by a short neck. The tough-luck story of the race was first-starter Eskimo Kisses (To Honor and Serve), who walked out of the gate and spotted her rivals some five lengths. She made steady inside progress down the backstretch and rallied smartly in the final furlong, but just missed. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0. O-Norma Lee Stockseth Todd Dunn. B-Pewter Stable (PA). T-Donnie K Von Hemel.
