Blond Me Aims For HK Swansong

By Daithi Harvey

Barbara Keller has been fortunate to race two Group/Grade 1 wining fillies in recent years and after her Blond Me (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) emulated Keller’s Odeliz (Ire) (Falco) by winning at the top level in Sunday’s GI E.P. Taylor S. at Woodbine, her trainer Andrew Balding revealed the 5-year-old globetrotting mare would be retired from racing at the end of the year. “She retires at the end of the season and will probably have one last go in Hong Kong, in either the Vase or the Cup, and finish her career then,” Balding said. Blond Me has competed in England America, Canada, Italy, France and Turkey throughout her career and having won twice at Group 2 level she made the valuable leap to secure victory on Saturday to augment her previous Group 1 second to Winter (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Qatar Nassau S. at Goodwood in August. Blond Me is now the highest earner for her Derrinstown Stud based sire Tamayuz (GB) (Nayef) and is also the second top level winning filly for the stallion this year following the exploits of G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner Precieuse (Ire).
