Weld filly shows Discipline for gutsy Listed victory

DISCIPLINE landed the feature coral.ie EBF Naas Oaks Trial to give Dermot Weld success in the Listed race for the third time in four years.

The Pat Smullen-ridden filly produced a gutsy performance from the front to score by half a length from Earring, trained by Aidan O’Brien, who fielded four runners and was also chasing a third success in the contest.

The daughter of Dansili is a sister to the stable’s great stalwart of recent years Famous Name, but an Irish Oaks bid looks unlikely.

Weld said: “She’s a lovely filly. She’s won her stakes race now and we’ll probably look for a Group 3 with her now, although we’ve no definite plans. She likes a bit of space between her races.”

He added: “I don’t know if she’ll stay 1m4f, but she certainly got the 1m2f well there and if she does stay further it opens up more options for her. She’s an improving filly and a very good one, she’ll come into her own as the year progresses.”
