AIDAN O’BRIEN said on Monday morning he expects to have four runners in Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.

Epsom second and third US Army Ranger and Idaho are set to spearhead the quartet, with Shogun and Port Douglas – who also ran at Epsom – the others being lined up to run.

Deauville – who also ran in the Derby – is being targeted at the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown the following Saturday on July 2.

Running plans

O’Brien, who hosted the media at his Ballydoyle yard, said: “The horses have come out of Epsom well. We’re looking at US Army Ranger and Idaho and probably Shogun and Port Douglas.”

He added: “Deauville will not run. We felt in the Dante at York that in the last half-furlong he didn’t quite get home and it looked like he didn’t stay at Epsom, so at this stage we’re looking at bringing him back to a mile and a quarter for the Eclipse.”

O’Brien’s 1,000 Guineas and Oaks heroine Minding is set to run in Sunday’s Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, the trainer added.

“Minding came out of her Epsom win well and is in good form,” said O’Brien. “The plan is to run her in the Pretty Polly if we are happy with her nearer the weekend.”
