NICKY HENDERSON, who has worked his magic to get Sprinter Sacre and Bobs Worth back in the winner’s enclosure this season, is keeping everything crossed he can get another of his leading lights back on track as he targets next week’s Punchestown festival with the ultra-talented but fragile Simonsig.
The 2012 Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle winner has raced just once since his Racing Post Arkle victory in 2013 when chasing home Bobs Worth in a conditions hurdle at Aintree in November.
Owned by Ronnie Bartlett, the dashing grey was due to appear in Sandown’s Tingle Creek Chase the following month, but suffered a setback.
However, he delighted Henderson on Wednesday morning when schooling under Barry Geraghty and is set to run in the Grade 1 BoyleSports Champion Chase on Tuesday.
“He was very good,” said Henderson. “We’ve got a few days to get him to Punchestown in one piece, but he was very good indeed.”

Simonsig’s stablemate My Tent Or Yours is also set to travel for the Betdaq Punchestown Champion Hurdle and a third crack at Annie Power, who beat him in the Champion Hurdle and Aintree Hurdle, while Henderson’s exciting Newbury bumper winner Jenkins has also been earmarked for the journey.
Outlining his Punchestown team, Henderson added: “I think My Tent will go, then there is Brain Power, Full Shift, Captain Conan, O O Seven and Jenkins, who was impressive in a bumper at Newbury recently. There are quite a few maybes as well.”
