VROUM VROUM MAG will miss a clash with the boys in Thursday’s Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle at Punchestown after trainer Willie Mullins did not declare the Cheltenham Festival winner for the Grade 1.

Unbeaten in nine starts since joining Mullins, the seven-year-old could still run at Punchestown’s festival this week in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Mares Champion Hurdle on Saturday.

Mullins, fined £1,000 by stewards at Sandown on Saturday after he withdrew Vroum Vroum Mag shortly before she was due to contest a Listed hurdle at the track, will be represented in the 3m contest by Shaneshill and Thousand Stars as he bids for his sixth victory since 2009 in the race, which was robbed of its star act when World Hurdle hero Thistlecrack was ruled out with injury.

Ireland’s champion trainer does run one of his aces on Punchestown’s card on Thursday with Douvan – a winner at Cheltenham and Aintree this season – facing five rivals in the Ryanair Novice Chase.

They include Sizing John, who trails the Racing Post Arkle winner  0-5 in their meetings.
