WORK ALL WEEK responded well to a big step up in class to land a blisteringly quick sprint as Hong Kong’s first Cup runner Rich Tapestry, who was sent off favourite, finished well down the field.
The pace from the off was quick and initially set by Fast Anna, but it did not take long before 20-1 outsider Work All Week galloped to the front.
The Roger Brueggemann-trained gelding looked to be handed an easy victory but inside the final furlong there were some fast finishers who looked set to catch the winner, most notably Secret Circle who eventually finished second.
But Florent Geroux’s mount kept galloping inside the final strides to keep his rivals at bay.
The much talked about first runner for Hong Kong, Rich Tapestry travelled in mid-division throughout the contest but was never able to live with the frantic pace set by the front runners.
British runner Wind Fire travelled in the pack for much of the trip but finished out of the frame.
Geroux, winning his first race at the Breeders’ Cup said: “It’s unbelievable, a dream come true.
“He’s a win machine. Today was his real test and he just killed them.”
Brueggemann said: “He was ready, all the stars were lined up.”
