Cantor Fitzgerald Debt Capital Markets National Stakes (Listed) 2yo, 5f
THE Richard Hannon stable continued its dominance of the National Stakes as King Of Rooks moved to the head of the Coventry Stakes ante-post market, though the Norfolk could be a likelier target.
Last year Tiggy Wiggy carried the colours of Potensis Bloodstock to victory, and the same silks returned to the winner’s enclosure 12 months on.
Always up with the pace on the rail, King Of Rooks travelled sweetly and then quickened away smartly by five lengths, returning at 11-4.
Buratino gave chase to take second at 10-1, with 7-4 favourite Steady Pace third.
Hannon is now two for two in the race since taking over from his father, who won it in recent seasons with Sir Prancealot and Monsieur Chevalier. It was the yard’s sixth National Stakes winner since 2007.
Hannon, who was sending out his fourth winner of the day, said: “I think he got the run of the race, he travelled lovely and had a good draw.
“Everything about him looks speed and he looks more like a Norfolk horse right now.”
