IT WAS a case of what might of been and just compensation for Andrew Lynch and Davy Russell as Zabana, the horse who ditched his rider at the start of last month’s JLT, made light work of his rivals to land Grade 1 victory for connections.

Having made it off the start line this time Zabana’s backers did not have to wait long for their first heart-in-mouth moment, with the horse pecking badly on landing over the first.

Russell did well to maintain the partnership again as the race was heating up as the loose Ballychorus veered across the field and nearly took the two out.

Everything the race threw at Russell washed off him as if no amount of bad luck was going to get in his way this time and once straightening up the loose horse in front of the field gave him something to aim at and the pair ran out two-length winners from 3-1 favourite Outlander, himself a faller in the JLT.

Grand National winner Rule The World finished sixth.
